Have you ever seen a new layout of something you use everyday, like facebook or wordpress page formats, and thought “I wonder if I would like using that style better?” And then the more you look at it the more the thought of trying to use that new look or style gives you shivers and a twitch. (I’m sure it’s not just me, but if it is, just humor me and don’t burst my lil bubble…)
When I first saw facebook’s new timeline look, I hated it. Still do actually, so thankful they left my wall looking normal so I only see the mess that is timeline if I click on my profile, which I avoid doing… Anyway, back to the point. I saw a different wordpress layout today (called “auto focus”), where it just had a collage of random sized pictures, instead of full posts, with dates on each one. I started thinking “Hmm…do I like that? Could I get used to using that?” And the more I looked at it, the more the answer was obvious. “NO” (insert raised eyebrow of uncertainty and fear here with vehement head shaking) I think it is because I like things neat and fairly organized and symmetrical. Facebook timeline and that particular wordpress layout are none of these things, and I think that’s why they bother me. Now, not everything has to be symmetrical or neat, but there are somethings that I can’t make myself like no matter how many other people can use/like them with wild abandon. Can’t. Do. It. Strangely the randomly sized pictures of pinterest don’t bother me in the slightest…..sometimes I think my brain has selective bipolar OCD or something.
