Strathmore has a new set of free online workshops on their site here. The first one is “abstract fine art painting” with Robert Joyner, which started on march 1st but you can watch the videos at your own pace. It is 4 weeks for each workshop with one video lesson each week, a gallery to post your work in and see other student’s work, and discussion forums available all the time.
I only just tore myself away from the spring cleaning that has been going on around here today (admit it, you thought I was going to say the gelli plate hahaha. That was yesterday lol ) and was able to sit down and watch the videos from weeks 1 and 2 of the class. It is a cool technique, a lot more free and random with the brush strokes, and less meticulous than most painting lessons. I’m pretty sure “carefree brush strokes” will probably have me freaking out a bit, but I will give it a try. I tend to have a few issues with painting real objects abstract-ishly most of the time, I usually try to make them look very non-abstract if it is a real thing I am painting and not just flowers or something like that. (cause you know, flowers aren’t real….lol 🙂 ) Can’t wait to see the next video for the workshop!
You can also check out what other students are making in the gallery, and there are forums for each workshop in case you need help or tips or just want to connect to other artists. It’s pretty cool, you should check it out!
