Be the good

I finished a canvas I started working on a few days ago, and I love how it turned out!! Saw this on pinterest  and loved it! But I didn’t have any wood, or some place that I could really put something that big. What I did have was a selection of canvases and wall space! So, out came the stencils and paint, and here is the finished piece:

Originally the copper colored letters were turquoise, but I felt like that blended into the background too much. The pictures don’t do it justice, it’s very bright and colorful, and the copper and black letters really pop from the background!! The final layer of the background was molding paste colored with paint and used with a stencil. The texture just invites you to run your hands over it! Since I know I will never frame it, I painted a black border around the edges, and I think it makes it feel finished.

Materials used: 18″ x 24″ canvas, gesso, acrylic paints, molding paste, stencils, sharpie paint pen, and gel pen.

Thanks so much for stopping by!! I hope you are having great spring weather where ever you are!

About kittyisnotamused

I am an eclectic crafter whose hobbies currently include knitting, crochet, making journals, cooking, and quilting, although I have also been addicted to jewelry making, scrapbooking, sewing, and many others. My passion for creating runs a wide gamut and jumps back and forth from new hobbies to old often. I live with my hubby and our 3 pets: 1 grown puppy with the attention span of a goldfish, and 2 lazy chubby kitties. Kitties who, despite my best efforts to gain their enthusiasm, show no interest in what I'm working on except to lay on whatever it is occasionally. The hubby's reactions are better, which is why he gets many handmade items and the kitties only a few, but his reactions are usually confused smiles and nods with "thats great sweety!" The dog shows the most enthusiasm but mostly that translates into her trying to snot and eat whatever I am showing to her... I suppose thats just life tho :) Thanks for stopping in, feel free to leave a comment!

  1. That is awesome!! I love using molding paste through a stencil or even just smearing it on and drawing into it. Reminds me I haven’t done anything like that lately! I like to paint the sides of my canvas black also–it’s expensive to frame canvas and it looks finished enough to sell and let the buyer decide.

    • I usually forget about molding paste, but I am so happy I didn’t this time. I do like the black edges on the canvas, I may do that with the next one too! Thanks so much for stopping by!
